Members of the Balangir
Action Committee gheraoed the PWD Executive Engineer office here on Saturday
demanding commencement of road construction work from the Ramai Talkies to
PatnaHotel Chowk.
“We have been
agitating for construction of the road for the past three years. A sum of Rs 75
lakh has already been sanctioned for the same from different stakeholders.
However, the work is yet to begin, thanks to the apathetic attitude of the
officials,” said committee president Gopalji Panigrahi.
When asked, assistant
executive engineer Amit Kumar Tudu said encroachment is the major problem for
the road construction. Once the encroachment is cleared, the work would begin.
The eviction drive on the road would start from July 10, informed Revenue
Officer Sarat Kumar Bag.
However, the committee
threatened to again stage agitation in coming days, if the road construction
work does not start within a month.
