So far, a total of 93 people have been affected with jaundice in Balangir town and more cases are still coming up from the Sudpada area, according to reports.  “A door to door survey has shown more cases in the Sudpada area. The incubation period of the virus causing jaundice is two months. Hence, we should remain watchful as more cases might emerge in these two months,” said Balangir CDMO Dr RN Tripathy. However, he said the jaundice situation in the whole town area is under control.
Besides, as many as six cases of jaundice have been detected in village Raipali under the district’s Deogaon block to where a medical team has already been sent, according to sources.
Meanwhile, the PHD authorities have started taking action against illegal water connections in the town besides collecting water samples from different parts for test. The district administration has also taken initiatives to clean choked drainage and stop leakages in water pipes. The encroachment of drain areas is also being evicted.
