Even as the State Government claims to have provided adequate infrastructure for imparting quality education at primary schools, the reality at the Salepali Project Upper Primary School in the Balangir Municipality tells a different story.
The school has only four classrooms against eight classes from Standard I to VIII. A total of 190 students, including 50 from the Kamakshyee Nagar Primary School, are being taught in this school now.
Besides, the Salepali Anganwadi children are also taught and served food here. The school has no boundary wall and electricity connectivity. The shortage of space forces children to take mid-day meals in the open, said a teacher.
“We have appraised the problems to the higher authorities. The school has four classrooms and four teachers against eight classes,’’ added the teacher.
The locals have demanded that the higher authorities upgrade the infrastructure and appoint adequate number of teachers soon to improve the gloomy situation.
