Panic gripped the Sudpada area of the Balangir Municipality as a woman died due to jaundice on Friday night, barely 24 hours after the water-borne disease claimed life of a youth, Rakesh Nayak (22), of the same locality. The woman, identified as M Jagadamba (42), while being taken to a Vishakhapatnam hospital with severe pain complaints died on the way at Kesinga, said family members.
They said that she had earlier been admitted in the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) here a month ago. From there she had been shifted to the VSS Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Burla, where she was found suffering from jaundice. From there she was taken to Cuttack for further treatment and fully recovered, they said.
“She was doing fine after returning from Cuttack. However, she developed acute pain on Friday night and while being taken to Vishakhapatnam died at Keshinga,” said a family member of deceased Jagadamba. When contacted, Balangir CDMO Dr RN Tripathy said that DHH doctors had referred her to Burla on suspicion that she had heart ailments. But there jaundice was detected in her. “We are searching for her health records for further confirmation,” said the CDMO. Notably, Rakesh had died in Burla hospital while undergoing treatment on Thursday.
