Normal life was disrupted in Balangir
headquarters town following heavy rainfall on Monday morning.
Several areas were flooded with rainwater, while due to encroachment of
drains and inadequate drainage system in most parts of the town the low-lying
areas were marooned as water could not be released.
There was knee deep water on main roads, affecting vehicular traffic.
Moreover, the local municipality office was also under knee-deep water,
which hit its normal work.
“The encroachment of drains and continuous dumping of garbage and
construction material in them has been creating problem of water logging in the
town every year during the rainy season. However, we have pressed our personnel
and machinery into service to release water from different areas of the town,”
said Balangir Municipality Executive Officer Santosh Behera.
