Although the Government is making tall claims of providing job at doorstep through its flagship programme of MGNREGA, yet reports of distressed migration, mostly among SC, ST, tribal and other marginalized populace, from Patnagarh Sub division of the district is happening at regular intervals.
According to reports, Kailash Bhue (45) of Baghbahali village of Patnagarh Block had migrated to Chennai along with his wife Bhanu Bhue and five children 10 years ago after accepting an advance of Rs 5,000 from two local sardars (middlemen). Bhue set out for his new destination from Kantabanji to Chennai.
However, in the midway, he got down at Vijayawada station. Unable to find her husband, Bhanu returned to her native village with her children. It has been over ten years the whereabouts of Bhue is yet to be known. Bhanu had tried to locate him but in vain.
“I came across this moving story of Kalikash Bhue recently. These people are not aware where to go and who to approach in such a situation,” informs social activist Promod Bagarti.
The administration should look into this incident, besides sensitizing people about how to approach and where to approach in case of missing of the migrant labourers, Bagarti said further. Meanwhile, Paschim Odisha Adivasi Kalyan Sangh secretary Niranjan Bisi demanded efforts by the administration to trace out the poor tribal. He even warned of a stir within 15days if the efforts are not initiated.
