The Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (XIMB) will open its second campus at Balangir in western Odisha with the State Government’s support.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has approved a proposal of the Department of Planning & Coordination in this regard.
The State’s western part is yet to have good quality educational institutions to help improve employability of the educated youth of the region. So, on the line of setting up of medical college in Western Odisha, the State Government has agreed to allow the XIMB to open a Business School with an intake capacity of 120 students.
In Rural Management, the intake capacity would be of 60 students, and in General Management with specialisation in banking and financial services the intake would be another 60 students, said sources.
A sum of Rs 10 crore as onetime grant would be provided to the XIMB, and in lieu of the financial support, the XIMB would reserve 33 per cent of the seats for the applicants of Odisha domiciles. Out of the total 33 per cent of seats reserved, 20 per cent would be meant for ST (12%) and SC (8%) candidates.
The State has no obligation to provide Government land at Balangir free of premium and that the XIMB has to seek land, including Government land if any, at their own costs.
The XIMB would maintain the same nomenclature so that the proposed institute at Balangir benefits from the brand value of XIMB. The XIMB, which started its institute in Bhubaneswar in the 1980s, will also move out to expand its branch in western Odisha.
In the meantime, the XIMB has also initiated a move for setting up of a Xavier University in the State, which would be first of its kind in the country.
While a Bill in this regard is ready, it would soon be placed in the State Assembly for approval, said the sources.
